I am a descendant of John Jackson and was fascinated to read of the story of a relationship in China before he married Honoria. I am keen to contact the writer of the ARTIST SURVEYORS OF EARLY NEW ZEALAND, Chapter 1 article. This person says his/her father, Murray, was about 10 when Henry Jackson died. If Henry Jackson was born in 1830, as stated in the article, the date on the tombstone in the photo must be 1906, to tally with the age which is clearly visible. Two children of Murray Jackson, the twins William John and Murray Spearink, were born in 1895, so about 10 years old in 1906. The writer must be a child of one of them.
I have quite a lot of information on the Jacksons and would be happy to exchange what I have with anything more that can help fill out the story.
With regard to the children before Honoria, I do have evidence of the birth of a Charles Jackson in Macao in 1822 to John Jackson of the EIC and "Maria" but have been able to find nothing regarding any others.
I am also interested in the photo of John Jackson. Can anyone tell me the source of this. Incidentally, I think the parentage in the captions to the photos is wrong. Henry was not the father of John...
Can anyone enlighten me on sources and background for the story please? |

What old newspaper clippings have you got buried somewhere? What about old photographs? Postcards? Books with stories about family members?
Please dig them out and send them to me. |
